Foss, Stephen A.

Stephen A. Foss, 37, of 150 Western Ave., Altamont, N.Y., and formerly of Williamstown, Mass., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born in North Adams, Mass., on April 27, 1967, he was the son of Nancy Jane (Switzer) Foss and the late Glenn A. Foss. He attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from Mount Greylock Regional High School with the class of 1988.
He was employed at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute and at Oak Hollow Farm, both in Williamstown. He also was employed at the Crossgates Mall, Gold’s Gym and last employed in the office of the Center for the Disabled, all in the Albany area.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Williamstown and was an avid New York Yankee Fan.
Besides his mother of Williamstown, he leaves a sister, Sharon E. Bryan of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a brother, Brian S. Foss of Jackson, Wyo., and two nieces, Elizabeth Nancy Jane Bryan and Charlotte Rose Bryan of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Stephen A. Foss will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Williamstown, Mass. Private burial will take place in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
There are no calling hours.

Thompson Jr., Frederick

Frederick Thompson Jr.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Funeral services for Frederick George Thompson Jr., 68, of 128 White Oaks Road, were held Saturday, Sept. 18, 2 p.m., at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Williamstown, officiating.
The ministers of the word were Linda Beth Thompson, daughter, and Diane Saunders, niece.
The soloist and guitarist was Diane Maynard.
Burial with full military honors followed in the veteran’s circle in Eastlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Saunders and Albert Nault, nephews; Ryan Saunders, grandnephew; Frederick Thompson III and Carl Thompson, sons; and Carl Thompson Jr., grandson.
Military honors were conducted by members of the Richard Ruether Post 152 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8304, both of Williamstown, under the direction of Michael Kennedy, sergeant of arms. Chaplain Herbert Palmer offered the veteran’s prayer and recited “What The Flag Stands For.” Gary Walsh and Rolland Roy folded the flag, which Mr. Palmer presented to Mr. Thompson’s wife, Dolores.
Members of the firing squad were George Sylvester, Ernest Monroe and Robert Sweet. Members of the color guard were Richard Peterson, Richard Babcock, Earl Green, Art Jensen and Norman Burdick. Ronald Whitney played taps.
Mr. Thompson died Sept. 15. The Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 W. Main St., North Adams, was in charge of arrangements.

Delmolino, Dawn E.

Dawn Evelyn (Enright) Delmolino, 72, of 71 Melrose St., Adams, died Saturday evening, Sept. 18, 2004, at her home. Death followed a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 25, 1931, she was the daughter of Harold and Grace (Decker) Enright. She attended schools in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1949.
Mrs. Delmolino was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and dancing.
She leaves her husband, Samuel Delmolino, whom she married on May 26, 1962; two daughters, Deborah G. Trudeau of Albany, N.Y., and Judith L. Sherman of Spring Hill, Fla.; two sons, Lyle D. Delmolino, and his wife, Laura Delmolino, of Adams and John N. Zullo Jr. of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren, Corinne Hale of West Sand Lake, N.Y., Chandler Ayotte, Colin Ayotte, Samuel L. Delmolino, and Joseph D. Delmolino of Adams, Caressa Adair of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ashley Sherman of Spring Hill, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Megan Hale, Victoria Adair, Alexis Ayotte and Anthony Tell; five sisters, Shirley Petell, Myrtle Blouin, and Jean Yon of Pittsfield, Elizabeth Witanek of Cheshire, and Mary Enright of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Harold “Ham” Enright of Jacksonville, N.C.; and John Enright of Dalton.
Two brothers are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Dawn Delmolino are private. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.

Janik, Emily

Emily Janik
ADAMS -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Emily “Millie” Janik, 82, of 72 East Road, was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 18, noon, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas, officiating.
Joseph Lipinski was the cross bearer, and Dola Lipinski and Joan Maznicki were the acolytes. The lectors were Dr. Gary Wojcik and David Moran, grandnephews, and Lynn Kelson, grandniece. Offertory gifts were presented by Lynn Kelson and Debbie Moran, grandnieces.
Scott Bailey, organist, accompanied the Community Choir of the Parishes.
Burial followed in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Wojcik, nephew; David Moran and Dr. Gary Wojcik, grandnephews; Wesley Kelson and Ben Kelson, great-grandnephews; and Richard Netherwood, friend.
Miss Janik died Sept. 14. The Augé-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Moore, Sophie

Sophie Moore
NORTH ADAMS -- Family and friends of Sophie “Sue” (Paradysz) Moore will join in prayer on Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m., at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 W. Main St. North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Graveside committal services will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Friday, 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Francis Parish Renovation Fund through the funeral home.
Mrs. Moore died July 10.

Norton, Marion E.

Marion E. Norton, 83, of Williamstown, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Death followed a long illness.
Born in Williamstown on June 17, 1921, she was the daughter of Russell J. and Alice F. (Weyers) Norton. She received her education in Williamstown schools.
In earlier years, she managed the River Street Cut Rate in North Adams for pharmacist Samuel Hirsch. In 1952, she went to work for Andrew R. Knowland, D.D.S. in Williamstown. In 1953, Dr. Knowland closed his office to report to active duty in the Army. Miss Norton then worked in the office of Dr. Chester Budg, D.D.M., for two years, until Dr. Knowland returned from the service and reopened his office in Williamstown. She retired from his employ in July 1987.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Williamstown.
She leaves a brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Norton of Adams; nieces and nephews, including Casey J. Norton of Scotia, N.Y., Dr. Jeffrey Norton of Menlo Park, Calif., Christopher Rowe of North Adams, Kelly Blanchette of Hadley, and Kimberly Rowe of Holyoke; a great-niece, several great-nephews and cousins.
A sister and two brothers are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A prayer service for Miss Norton will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the George M. Hopkins Funeral Home, Williamstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
Calling hours are today, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Phiffer, Andrew D.

Andrew D. “Andy” Phiffer, 44, of 98B Barbour St., North Adams, died Friday evening, Sept. 17, 2004, at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Death followed a long illness.
Born in Manchester, Conn., on July 1, 1960, he was the son of John Leonard Phiffer M.D. and M. Eileen (Poling) Phiffer. He attended schools in Columbus, Ohio, until moving as a child to Williamstown where he graduated from Mount Greylock Regional High School with the class of 1978. He also attended Johnson & Wales College in Providence, R.I.
Mr. Phiffer was employed in the restaurant industry for most of his life and was the owner and operator along with his brother, Richard Phiffer, of the former Behind the Scenes Restaurant in Williamstown.
He loved cooking, animals, poetry and being with family and friends.
He leaves include his wife, the former Teresa Odell, whom he married July 29, 2002; two brothers, James Phiffer of the Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Richard Phiffer of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Christian Phiffer, is deceased.
FUNERAL SERVICES -- Funeral services for Andrew Phiffer will take place Wednesday, Sept. 22, 9 a.m., at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

Simon, Elizabeth

NORTH ADAMS -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Elizabeth “Sobet” (Haddad) Simon, 81, of 335 State St., was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 18, 11 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church with the Rev. Michael Twardzik, pastor of St. Francis, Notre Dame and Our Lady of Mercy churches, officiating.
The acolyte was Joan Vincent. The pall was unfolded by the pallbearers and the crucifix was placed on the pall by Tracy Kelly and Kerry Fairs, grandchildren. The ministers of the word were Sabeth Simon and Daniel Rickert, grandchildren. The offertory giftbearers were Tracy Kelly and Sabeth Simon. Words of love and reflections were delivered by Kerry Fairs.
The organist and soloist was Joshua Sprague.
Burial followed in Southview Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Fairs, James Kelly, and Daniel Rickert, grandsons; Julie Rickert and Tracy Kelly, granddaughters; Nahila Haddad, niece; James Shadyak, nephew; and Morgan Ouellette.
Mrs. Simon died Sept. 15. The Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 W. Main St., was in charge of arrangements.

Walk, Sonya Y.

Sonya Yvette Walk, 67, of Harbour Road, Bennington, Vt., died Friday evening, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
Born in Pownal on April 15, 1937, she was the daughter of Ellis and Florence (Crawford) Maxon. She grew up in Pownal, attending the Pownal Elementary School and then Drury High School in North Adams, Mass., from which she graduated. She then attended Bliss Business College, also in North Adams.
She married Glenn F. Walk on Feb. 23, 1956, at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. She traveled extensively with her husband, who made the Air Force his career for 20 years.
She worked for Pacific Telephone in the early years of their marriage and became a stay-at-home mother while her children were young. After her husband’s retirement from the Air Force and their return to the Bennington area, she worked as a secretary with Agway Petroleum for a short time and with Dr. Keith Edwards for 14 years. She retired from a part-time position with Ed Colvin Realtor in 2002.
Mrs. Walk enjoyed her family, her friends, traveling and various types of gardening and needlework.
She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Bennington.
Besides her husband of Bennington, she leaves a daughter, Kim Hassenpflug, and her husband, Keith, of Cheshire, Mass.; a son, Kevin Walk and his wife, Kathy, of Adams, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jenny Hassenpflug, Ryan Walk, Amber Smith and Christopher McCarron; a brother, Gerald Maxon of Williamstown, Mass.; and her close friends, Nicole Woodward, Betty Hathaway and Anna Behan.
A brother, Ellis Maxon, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Sonya Walk will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1 p.m., at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
Calling hours are today, 3-5 p.m., at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
