Things are back to normal at the North Adams Price Chopper today after a
minor flood that occurred Friday night. North Adams Fire officials said the cold
weather froze a pipe in the store’s sprinkler system and when the pipe burst,
sent a cascade of water into a storage area and some of the shopping area,
sometimes reaching 5 inches deep in spots. The store was reopened for weekend
shoppers.

in their neighborhoods since the break-in’s began. Police said they have a photo

Census Forms Going Out To Area Residents
Census forms are being mailed out to local residents in the next few weeks.
Some forms are being hand delivered however. If you live in Alford, Monterey,
Mt. Washington, New Marlboro, Sheffield, Stockbridge or West Stockbridge, your
form will be delivered to your home by a census worker. The Census Bureau says
that the form consists of 10 questions and it is very important that you fill
out and promptly return the form. Census workers will follow up on any forms
that are not returned. The 2010 Census helps local communities receive their
share of more than $300 Billion in federal funds each year.
Pittsfield Health Director Pushes For Testing Of Ice Cubes.
Ice cubes that are put in your drinking water and other beverages at
Pittsfield restaurants, bars and institutions are taken for granted that they
are free from contaminates. Mostly, they are…. but Pittsfield Health Director
James Wilusz and his department want to make sure and have been testing ice
cubes in area restaurants, bars and other institutions on a voluntary basis for
almost a year. The Pittsfield Gazette reports in their latest issue that in the
past year, they have found some contamination but that has been solved when the
problems had been identified and corrected. Willusz said that generally, the
problems can be easily corrected. Not all establishments are taking part in the
voluntary ice cube testing with only about 25% coming up with the $20 dollars it
costs for a sampling. More information is available at: www.pittsfield-ma.org.
